Prosthetics – crowns and bridges – or how to create a beautiful smile.
A crown is a faithful reproduction of a tooth in terms of its shape, color and, above all, its functioning in the patient’s bite. It is made in a laboratory technique. It can be placed on an implant or on the patient’s own tooth, which has been broken or significantly damaged by caries.
The patient’s tooth is prepared before the crown is placed – the outer layer of about 1.5 mm is removed and replaced with a new one made by a technician. With the help of a crown, we can change the shape and color of the tooth to obtain the best aesthetic effect.
A bridge is several crowns connected together to replace a missing tooth in the patient’s mouth. Both teeth adjacent to the gap (bridge abutment teeth) are prepared (the outer layer is removed) and a bridge made in a technical laboratory is placed on the whole. The occlusal surfaces fully reflect the natural teeth. The bridge faithfully reproduces the shape and color of the lost teeth.
Construction materials of crowns and bridges.
Crowns and bridges are made with great precision under microscopic magnification or even “printed” by specialized machines.
Each crown is made of two layers – the outer – aesthetic – porcelain is responsible for the color, depth of the tooth, correct reflection of light so that the tooth looks beautiful but as natural as possible. The second, inner layer is the so-called construction layer made of metal or zirconium. The choice of this material affects the final aesthetic effect.
Metal – is the cheapest, basic material. Its use requires a health interview, because the patient may be allergic to some components of metal alloys. It has a gray color, which unfortunately may negatively affect the aesthetics of the crown at the contact with the gum – a dark border on the gum.
Zirconium – is a revolutionary material, the most aesthetic manufactured based on computer technology. It ensures the greatest possible accuracy and tightness. It is a completely safe, biocompatible material, which does not cause any allergies. It allows for the most faithful reflection of the naturalness and beautiful healthy tooth.
